Rapid City man arrested following road rage incident involving gun

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City man was arrested Friday afternoon following a road rage incident on Omaha Street.

Authorities say that at around 3:10 p.m. they were dispatched to Baken Park for a report of an individual who said a gun had been pulled on them.

They made contact with the victim in the parking lot. The individual told police that the suspect was now walking southbound through the parking lot. Police made contact with the suspect and detained him. He was identified as 24-year-old Daniel Loftus of Rapid City. He had a loaded pistol on his person.

After speaking with both parties, law enforcement determined that the incident began when the two became aggressively engaged while they were both driving westbound on Omaha Street. When they came to a stoplight at Omaha and 5th Street, Loftus allegedly pointed a gun at the victim.

Police placed him under arrest for aggravated assault and he was transported to the Pennington County Jail.
