Rapid City man arrested after midnight supermarket robbery

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A Rapid City man is in jail after a midnight robbery of a supermarket.

Around 12:00 a.m. Thursday morning, Rapid City Police were dispatched to the Family Fare Supermarket on Mountain View Road for a report of a robbery that had just occurred.

Officers were informed that an unknown male subject had entered the store, threatened an employee with a weapon concealed in his pocket, and demanded money from the register. The employee complied and the suspect had left the store.

A nearby Pennington County Sheriff’s Deputy heard the description of the suspect and responded to the area, where he observed the suspect walking northbound from the area.

The suspect, 35-year-old Zachary Neely of Rapid City, was taken into custody with the assistance of an RCPD officer. A pocket knife with the blade extended was located in his jacket pocket.

Neely was placed under arrest for Second Degree Robbery before being transported to the Pennington County Jail.
