Rapid City leaders reminding public to check roofing contractors, get permits

RAPID CITY, S.D. — After the hail storms of the past few weeks, a reminder that communities, such as Rapid City, require permits for certain repair projects.

Do your homework before your home-work.

City leaders say they’ve been receiving calls as to what can and can-not be done. The main concerns include if someone comes to your property with a bid on a project, be sure to have a permit and a license.

“Basically, buyer beware,” said Darrell Shoemaker, the Communications Coordinator for the City of Rapid City. “Check credentials of those people who are calling, knocking on your door. Ask for credentials, ask for their resume. Check and see if they’re licensed.”

This applies to most home improvement projects. Any questions are welcome and will be fielded by the Rapid City Permit, Planning and Code Department at 394-4120.
