Rapid City Juvenile Services Center hosts book drive
RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Juvenile Services Center in Rapid City is hosting a book drive from January 10-31 to benefit incarcerated youth.
The facility, which houses youth from ages 10 to 21, has a library available which is in need of some new material. High interest, low reading level book series for youth are especially popular. Juvenile services also has a big need for Spanish language books for those who can’t speak or read English.
Reading is one of the activities permitted to the youth which has a big affect on moral.
“It gives the kids an opportunity to learn, it gives the kids something to do during down times and a lot of times with reading it sparks some good conversations,” said Pennington County Juvenile Service Program Sgt., Tim Lindblom.
Donated books will be accepted at the Public Safety Building on Kansas City Street beginning January 10.
For security reasons, only soft cover books will be accepted and preferably in good condition.
