Rapid City Police issue warrant for suspect in 2018 fatal crash
RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Police have issued a warrant for the man believed to be responsible for the traffic accident that killed a nearly one year old infant.
George Matousek, 37, of Rapid City is wanted in connection with the Oct. 5, 2018 fatal accident that happened at the intersection of East Boulevard and East New York Street in Rapid City.
In the warrant, Matousek is charged with second-degree manslaughter and five counts of hit-and-run, driving under suspension, and no proof of insurance. He also has an existing warrant for a failure to appear related to a separate arrest in Sept. 2018 for ingesting a substance to intoxicate.
Police say that the accident occurred when a Pontiac Grand Prix was attempting to turn left onto East New York Street. A Pontiac Booneville traveling southbound on East Boulevard struck the Grand Prix and another vehicle at a high rate of speed.
Two adults in the Grand Prix were treated for life-threatening injuries and an infant, identified as one-year-old Mackayla Dillon, died from her injuries.
Police say the nearly-year long investigation has involved multiple witness interviews, reviewing recovered surveillance footage, and forensic evidence analysis to determine that Matousek was the alleged driver of the Bonneville.
