Rapid City Independence Day fireworks show preparing for a big event on Monday

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City’s Independence Day fireworks show is preparing to go off with a bang as crew members were out setting up for the big show Sunday afternoon.

Containers To Be Loaded With Fireworks For The Independence Day ShowLaunched from the Executive Golf Course, viewers can expect to see around 1,000 pounds of colorful explosions filling the air.

And while the golf course will be closed off to golfers and viewers, there are plenty of spots in the surrounding downtown area to see them.

Of course, lighting them by hand is no easy task and can possibly cause problems between sets.

“We light everything electronically, which is a lot safer and you also get a more consistent show,” Pyrotechnician for J&M Displays Dylan Stanton said. “There are no gaps in it, everything goes smooth. And you can fire faster, more stuff in the air, more exciting.”

The show will be about 20 to 25 minutes in length and will feature a musical accompaniment from one of the local radio stations in town.
