Rapid City Hospital’s new entrance is finished and ready for the public

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Monument Health has just finished construction on the new Rapid City Hospital 5th Street entrance.

It will serve as the main entry and exit point for nearly all services at the hospital.

The new main entrance wraps up a four-year, $220 million dollar construction project on the Rapid City Hospital. Included in the new entrance is a gift shop, a bistro cafe called crEATe and a specially designed healing room to provide spiritual support to the community.

Phase one opened in 2019 with the Emergency Department and Heart and Vascular unit, but the hospital is designed to be able to keep expanding.

“Were built to go up another four floors, we’re constantly evaluating our needs of our community and we are gonna constantly reinvest in our community to meet those needs. So we are built to go up in the future and that future is coming very quickly,” said Dave Ellenbecker, Vice President of Facilities Management.

The Heart and Vascular unit located in the hospital is continuously growing and Monument Health is already starting to think about expansion.

Parul Bisla, Director of Operations at the Heart and Vascular Unit said, “We’ve only outgrown this space and hopefully in April of next year we will have the fifth floor ready so that we can move the rest of our practices here.”

As of this Monday, September 21, the Rapid City Hospital’s new 5th Street entrance will be available for public use. This will become the main entrance to the hospital and create easier access for patients.
