Rapid City girl wins state-wide billboard creating competition

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Fourth graders throughout the state participated in a coloring contest to bring awareness to work zone safety.

Road workers are often at risk of being hit by drivers that are speeding or distracted. Kids were asked to create a billboard sign that encourages people to be cautious on the roads.

The winner was Soraya Pekny of Saint Elizabeth Seton Elementary School.

Well our teacher told us that usually, the construction workers are the ones that get killed in the accidents so I thought that I would do most construction workers they work so that they can pay for their families,” said Pekny.

Her billboard will be displayed all over the state. She was also awarded a mini billboard of her own and a cash prize.
