Rapid City getting primed for summer volleyball leagues

Parks And Rec 5RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City is getting primed for a little summer volleyball action.

Registration is underway through the Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department for summer sand volleyball and women’s indoor volleyball. Deadline for both leagues is June 9, with games beginning the following week on June 14.

Rapid City Recreational Specialist Matt Brandhagen says there’s something for the competitive or those looking to have fun. Since rec opportunities were limited last year due to COVID restraints, teams are starting to fill up fast.

“I bet you I average about a hundred and forty teams in each league and that’s all I can handle with the community gyms that we have. So really to grow it you know there’s not much growth to it. But people are doing it but that’s a lot of people playing volleyball. I run a basketball leagues, it’s full…football leagues are full. You know, in the fall I’ll be running a youth flag football league, which we didn’t do last fall cause of COVID. So if you’re interested in that too sign ups will be happening in a couple of weeks for our youth flag football league.”
