Rapid City FD to burn slash piles through the weekend

Smoke, flames may be visible through duration

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Rapid City Fire Department will be burning slash piles on the west side of town given the cold and snowy conditions.

The RCFD’s Wildfire Mitigation Program will be conducting the burns until the weekend so smoke and flames may be visible in the area through that time.

Firefighters will be monitoring burn piles until they have officially been cleared as “out” and they urge homeowners in the area to “follow all procedures including obtaining proper burn permits, and notifying neighbors and local authorities when burning piles.”

Temperatures are expected to remain below average until the weekend then conditions return to sunny and above freezing.
