Rapid City elementary schools move to Level 1 in-person learning on Monday, Sept. 21

Rapid City, S.D. – Rapid City Area Schools superintendent Dr. Lori Simon announcing late Thursday afternoon that the district’s elementary schools will move to Level 1 of the Together Again plan beginning Monday, September 21st.

Level 1 learning means students (excluding full-time distance learners) will attend school Monday through Thursday with off-campus learning on Friday.

In a Facebook post, Dr. Simon said the district consulted current statistics and health officials before making the decision.

Middle and high school students will remain at Level 2 for the time being. Dr. Simon says the district still has a large number of students and staff at the secondary level in quarantine, and most of the district’s active cases are also at that level.

The superintendent also says she is “hopeful that we will be able to move to Level 1 before the end of the month.”
