Rapid City Council announces new fire, police chiefs

RAPID CITY, S.D. — On Monday night, the Rapid City Council also gave the green light to Mayor Allender’s recommendations for the police chief and fire chief.

Don Hedrick and Jason Culberson were then sworn-in, losing their interim designations. Each were honored with a brief history of their careers, both receiving a standing ovation before and after swearing-in.

“I’m very excited for the next several years, I’m looking forward to the challenge and serving the community and working hard for the men and women of Rapid City Fire Department,” Culberson said.

“This is incredibly humbling and I’m just excited to be a part of the future of the city and the future of the Rapid City Police Department and you know, we have so many good things going on at our department right now and I am just completely humbled to be in a position to move things forward,” Hedrick said.

Both men are now officially in their positions as chief.
