Rapid City company raises money to aid Australian relief efforts

A small Rapid City company is raising money to aid in relief efforts down under.

Nerdy Nuts is a peanut butter company known for making fresh, un-preserved, specialty flavored peanut butters. They went viral for their presidential peanut butter line, inspired by candidates favorite dessert flavors.

Recently the company created a chocolate and coconut flavored Lamington peanut butter after Australia’s national Lamington cake, the proceeds of this flavor go towards disaster relief for Australia.

“We really wanted to do something good for all their wildfires over there and being so far away, you’re kind of tied with what you can actually do.” said Erika Peterson, co-founder of Nerdy Nuts “And we knew that we have such a national reach that why not try to get our customers to try to buy our peanut butter and 100% of all our proceeds goes to WIRES, which is the largest wildlife organization in Australia.”

The company has a goal of raising $10,000 for the Wildlife Information Rescue and Education Service and plans to sell the Lamington peanut butter as long as supplies last.

Nerdy Nuts is always experimenting with new flavors, and along with the Lamington, its newest addition is a Bourbon Peach Mint Peanut Butter.
