Rapid City Common Council looks to upgrade sewer lift station on city’s north side

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Common Council is looking to upgrade a sewer lift station on the city’s north side.

The Council’s working session now heading to the full Council to authorize advertising for bids to upgrade the lift station. It’s located at North Elk Vale Road and Seger Drive.

The seven million dollar project, which is funded through wastewater revenue bonds, calls for upgrading two sewer force mains to 16-inches and the gravity main to 24- inches.

Public Works Director Dale Tech says upgrades like these are necessary to keep up with the growth of the city.

“We knew for years and years that we would have to expand this facility. The last design of the facility allowed for this expansion, so this is just the next phase of a planed expansion,” Tech says.

Once approved, bids for the project would start being accepted this spring, with work expected to be completed in the fall of 2022.

The new upgrades are expected to sustain growth in the area for the next 50 years.
