Rapid City Area Schools Celebrate Veterans Day

Students are being shown why Veterans Day is important and how the Black Hills has a strong veteran community

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Kids in Rapid City Area Schools are honoring our nation’s veterans.

Wilson Elementary School students sang patriotic songs Thursday and recognized family members who currently serve and have served. The faculty said it was important that students understand why we celebrate Veterans Day, and that veterans live and work among us in our community.

“I live out in Douglas, so I’m surrounded by veterans on a daily basis,” Chaney explained. “It’s just awesome to just give them a little recognition. We should do it every day, but this is their day, and we’ll take the time to do so. Even if they take just two seconds to think [about] the importance of the day, that goes a long ways.”

Rapid City Elementary School will host their annual Military Appreciation Breakfast from 9-10 a.m. Friday, and Southwest Middle School will host their annual Veterans Day program at 9 a.m. Friday.

South Park Elementary will host their Veterans Day program on Monday at 8:15 a.m.
