Rapid City Airport releases 2021 passenger numbers

Rapid City Regional AirportRAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Regional Airport has released its airport statistics for 2021 with near record-breaking passenger numbers as it rebounded from the pandemic.

The airport saw a total of 690,740 passengers in 2021, compared to 374,076 in 2020. This was just shy of the all-time record of 705,429 passengers in 2019 according to the Rapid City Regional Airport website.

“This is exiting news as we recover from the pandemic,” stated Airport Executive Director Patrick Dame. “This year alone, we have seen an 84.7% growth in passengers on flights coming through the airport. With this uptick of visitors to the region, we are cautiously optimistic for another great year of economic growth.”

Airline flights operated also increased by 48.5% with the addition of new seasonal routes contributing to this success. Rapid City Regional Airport offered 25 nonstop routes to 24 different destinations with Allegiant, American, Delta, and United Airlines.

The airport had its biggest change in the month of April with a 982.8% difference in total passengers when comparing 2021 to 2020.

In July, the airport had its largest number of total passengers for the year at 100,223.
