Rapid City 14U team preparing for the Babe Ruth World Series

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Babe Ruth World Series for 14-year-olds is right around the corner and a team from Rapid City will be a part of it this year.

The Rapid City Braves recently completed a dominating performance at the Midwest Plains Regionals winning the title with a 9-4 victory over West Fargo.

This week, the team will depart for the Babe Ruth 14U World Series in Ottumwa, Iowa.

The Braves, who are 22-3 on the season, will compete against teams from across the United States.

Molloy Dial, the manager for the Braves, feels his team can be successful if they stay focused.

“We talked about it and they don’t have to be a one man team,” said Braves manager Molloy Dial. “You’ve got guys behind you and one in front of you. Put it over the plate and let them hit it. Let the defense play. The offense takes care of itself. We get hits. We get runs. We like to be aggressive on the base path. But a lot of it is just maintaining your confidence in yourself. When they maintain their confidence, they play ball well.”

Pool play begins on Saturday, August 14.

Rapid City will play teams from Florida, California, Arkansas and Oregon.

This is the first time that a U14 team from Rapid City will be participating in the Babe Ruth World Series.

The players are excited but nervous about competing on a national stage.

“We’ve got some good teams coming up starting off with Florida,” said Luke Hanzlik. “They play baseball year around there compared to us. It’s quite a difference level.”

“I think we’re nervous for the most part,” said Jackson Dial. “I mean, it’s expected to be nervous. But I think all of us are extremely excited to do this and go as far as we can.”

“There’s obviously some nervousness going into it,” said Brody Thompson. “But I think we’re all pretty excited. I don’t know if it’s set in all the way that going because its pretty new. The first team going there. It’s good experience so far.”
