1+1 Winner: Randy Canaan

BOX ELDER, S.D. – A Box Elder teacher is using newly acquired funds to boost technology in the classroom.

Randy Canaan at Francis Case Elementary is a recipient of NewsCenter1 and First Interstate Bank’s 1+1 Giveaway. Every two weeks, a teacher is chosen to receive $500 for expenses that would other be out-of-pocket for the educator.

Canaan teaches 2nd and 3rd grace technology and will be using the funds to help students further their technical knowledge in a fun way.

"A couple of teachers had talked to me about wanting to do some green screen projects with their classrooms, and so I had said that I would look into ways to do it," said Canaan. "Kids could talk about a book that they’ve read, and we could do it on the green screen where we could put in a background or pictures that related to their story."

NewsCenter1 and First Interstate Bank are proud to help fund this project and help children get creative in an educational setting.

"It’s always fun to come in and see the excitement on the kids’ faces and the appreciation shown by the teachers. This project will help them advance through the technology that they’ll be working with as young adults," said Brad Fischer, Vice President of Business Banking.
