Ranchland Fire in Box Elder Tuesday night

BOX ELDER- S.D. – Crews responded to a massive ranchland fire in Pennington County Tuesday night near the Box Elder-New Underwood line.

It started around 10:25 p.m. about a mile south of Interstate-90. Firefighters say a huge stockpile of hay caught fire.

The cause has not officially been determined at this time. Box Elder’s Assistant Fire Chief, Adam Kuenkel, tells NewsCenter One that it could have been started by a lightning strike or could have started spontaneously due to dry conditions and strong winds.

Fortunately, no one was injured as a result of this fire.
