Ranch donates beef to school to thank community
STURGIS, S.D. — Sturgis Brown High School received a 150 pound donation of beef from Levin Ranch on Friday.
The beef is a thank-you gift that came from Levin Ranch near Sturgis. Levin Ranch was one of the many area ranches that was devastated by Winter Storm Atlas in 2013.
After the storm in 2013, Levin Ranch was able to get back on its feet thanks to help from local organizations and the Rancher Relief Fund. After five years, Levin Ranch was able to give back to the community that helped in its time of need.
Former Director of the South Dakota Stockgrowers Association Silvia Christen said that the relationships between ranches and communities are important to maintain. “It’s been really awesome here over the last few years to watch these families recover from such a horrific storm and rebuild their operations,” Christen said. “But also right away start thinking about how to give back to the community.”
