Rally time means lane changes for Mount Rushmore Road project

RAPID CITY, S.D. July 23, 2015—Drivers in Rapid City should prepare for a shift in traffic on the Mt. Rushmore Road project set to begin July 29, 2015 for the duration of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.

There will be two-way traffic south of Cleveland Street and four lane traffic north of Cleveland Street on Mt. Rushmore Road with no center lane. Expect delays and be prepared for right-hand turns only.

Tower Road Bridge is on schedule to open to full traffic July 28 to Aug. 10. Tower Road Bridge will go back to single lane traffic with temporary signals beginning Aug. 11.

Business access on Tower Road and Mt. Rushmore Road will remain open at all times. Rapid City Medical Center is accessible via Tower Road from Cathedral Drive.  Drivers can expect delays and should plan trips for right-hand turns whenever possible. Please follow the road signs, pay attention to the speed limit and be aware of construction equipment and workers adjacent to driving lanes.
