Rally preparations going strong in the City of Sturgis

STURGIS, S.D. – The City of Sturgis is moving full steam ahead with its preparations for the rally in August.

Residents In Sturgis Preparing For The RallyBetween street and vendor preparations, along with city-wide maintenance, community members are anticipating business participation on-par with last year’s rally.

This year, visitors can expect an exciting lineup of stunt shows, indigenous dancers, and bike shows that will be on display at Rally Point.

City officials have also created a newly-revamped open-container policy for alcoholic beverages. The decision to allow for attendees to be able to walk around the area with alcoholic  beverages was a great success last year and have since been working on finding an ideal time slot.

“It is going to be within a certain designated area. There will be maps all along the edges to help people know where that is at,” Sturgis Rally and Events Director Tammy Even-Cordell said. “You can have beer and wine in a glass that you buy, a special events glass, and you can wander through the different bars, venues, and other stuff within that designated area from 10:00 p.m. through 2:00 a.m.”

Sturgis will have maps of the area, and signage featuring where the glasses will be available for purchase around rally point.
