Public can swim free on final pool day with winter apparel donation

Rc Outdoor Pools 1RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the End of Summer Bash Community Drive, which is offering the public the chance to swim free. However, they ask that a donation of adult winter apparel items be made.

The department is asking for new winter apparel items such as winter hats, gloves and socks on the final day each city pool is open for the summer season.

Teaghan Berkey, Recreations Specialist, says “Adult sizes are preferred.”

The last day for swimming at the Horace Mann and Parkview pools is Saturday, Aug. 20, and the final day of the season at the Jimmy Hilton pool at Sioux Park is Sunday, Aug. 28.

“It’s an opportunity for the public to get in one final swim at their favorite pool, to swim for free and to donate winter apparel items that will help those in need this winter,” said  Teaghan Berkey. “The winter season will be here before we know it and the winter apparel items will assist many people.”

“Pool noodles will be given out on a first come first serve basis to people that bring in donations.”

Berkey says the items will be donated to the Cornerstone Rescue Mission.
