Pro-choice advocates rally in Rapid City
RAPID CITY, S.D. – In the wake of new, strict abortion laws in several states, pro-choice advocates took to the streets of Rapid City on Wednesday.
A group of people came out to Halley Park with signs and chants that support abortion rights. Many wore hangers around their necks symbolizing one of the dangerous ways people performed abortions before they were legal.
“As long as there is misogyny, hatred of women, as long as women have subservient roles according to many males who are in positions of authority and especially in politics, we’ll be fighting this fight,” said Linda Boyle a pro-choice advocate.
Abortion is legal in South Dakota but there is only one abortion clinic in the state, and public funding is only available in cases of life endangerment.
