President Trump lauds US economy in Davos, says little on climate woes
DAVOS, Switzerland — President Donald Trump said Tuesday that he’s led a “spectacular” turnaround of the U.S. economy and urged the world to invest in America, but had little to say about climate change issues that are a focus of this year’s gathering of top business and political leaders in the Swiss Alps.
President Trump says that he hears European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is a “very tough negotiator.” But he said he hoped the U.S. and European Union could make progress on a new trade deal. Trump spoke to reporters before meeting her on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum.
He said: “It’s great to be with the president of the European Commission and a woman who’s highly respected.” He added that she was “a very tough negotiator.”
Trump has had many disagreements with Europe over tax and trade policy, including a new digital tax by the French that American tech giants
Trump addressed the annual World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, hours before his historic impeachment trial was to reconvene in the U.S. Senate in Washington.
