Prescribed fire planned at Mount Rushmore

MOUNT RUSHMORE, S.D. — A prescribed burn is scheduled for Mount Rushmore National Memorial Wednesday to reduce build up of dead fuels, in support of the park’s fire management plan.

The burn will approximately cover 260 acres and will help to slow the progress of wildfires.

Smoke and haze is expected throughout the burn period and into the following evening. Anyone with smoke sensitivity is advised to be cautious when visiting the memorial.
