Powwow group dancing COVID-19 worries away

RAPID CITY, S.D. — One thing COVID-19 hasn’t been able to stop is culture and heritage.

COVID-19 has changed the way pow-wows are put on, but local tribes refuse to let it stop them.

There’s now a Facebook group called “Social Distance Powwow”. It’s a place where people can dance, sing, and share their art on social media, all centered around native cultural and spiritual beliefs.

“Our songs and our dances have a lot of meaning and their purpose is to help us, to inspire us, to get us to a point of forgetting about our problems,” said Whitney Rencountre, the Co-Founder of Social Distance Powwow.

Visitors to the Facebook page you can find new things on the daily.
