Post 22 opens Firecracker Tournament with win over Rocky Mountain

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The annual Firecracker Baseball Tournament kicked off Wednesday at Fitzgerald Stadium.

The line-up looks a little different this year.

Instead of eight teams, there’s only six teams competing in the tournament.

That still means there will be 18 games between July 1-5.

Post 22 capped off the first day of action with a 9-4 win over Rocky Mountain.

Rocky Mountain opened up the scoring with three runs in the first inning including a home run by Joel Anderson.

But the Hardhats answered with a 2RBI double from Blake Weaver in the bottom of the first.

Then Post 22 grabbed the lead for good in the third inning.

Jake Goble took the win for Post 22. He allowed five hits and four runs over five innings, striking out seven.

Post 22 returns to action on Thursday with a doubleheader.

The Hardhats will play Premier West at 5 p.m. followed by a game against Sterling at 7:30 p.m.
