Porcupine schools placed on lockdown

PORCUPINE, S.D. — Schools in Porcupine were placed on lockdown Tuesday in response to a juvenile reported to be “armed and dangerous” by the Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Safety.

Officers had been looking for the juvenile after a shooting incident that occurred on Monday. The driver of a vehicle in Porcupine told police that a juvenile male had shot at their vehicle several times, and then fled into a wooded field east of town. The driver was not injured in the shooting.

Officers continued to search for the suspect on Tuesday and placed both Porcupine Day School and Our Lady of Lourdes on lockdown after the suspect was reported in the area. After searching the area for hours, officers apprehended the juvenile and placed him in custody.
