Police investigate overnight homicide on North Maple Avenue

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Rapid City Police Department responded to a call for shots fired around 1:30 a.m. Monday in the 1700 block of North Maple Avenue.

Officers at the scene followed a vehicle – which was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran a stop sign – until it stopped in the 800 block of Blaine Avenue. Five males exited the vehicle and fled on foot; three were caught and arrested:

  • Rodney American Horse of Rapid City (age 31) – Obstruction
  • Elias Campos of Rapid City (age 25) – Obstruction, Possession of a Controlled Substance
  • Jalen Storm (age 26) of Allen – Obstruction

Other officers located two gunshot victims in the parking lot of the apartment complex on North Maple; one has since died while the other is in critical condition.

The identity of the deceased has not been released pending notification of next-of-kin.

RCPD is investigating as a homicide along with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
