Police investigate gunshot reports off E. New York Street

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Police were called to a residence at 815 E. New York Street Sunday morning around 12:40 a.m. for a report of gunshots being heard in the area.

According to police; witnesses heard a vehicle driving fast through the neighborhood, stop suddenly and then heard several gunshots. The vehicle then speeds off; fleeing the area.

Officers on scene were able to find several shell casings in the area and made contact with the occupants of a residence involved in the incident. Information released today by Rapid City Police Department states, “…there is still more work that needs to be done in order for police to fully understand the circumstances of the gunshots. Police do not believe this incident to be random in nature.”
