Police find meth in abandoned car after suspect escapes pursuit

RAPID CITY, S.D. – Police found drugs but not a suspect after a pursuit through Rapid City.

The chase began Thursday around 1 a.m. after an officer spotted a Chevrolet HHR roll through a downtown stop sign. The driver stopped when prompted, but as the officer walked up, the driver sped away.

The pursuit circled around Rapid City’s south side and made its way north. There, police lost sight of the suspect and terminated the pursuit.

The SUV was later found abandoned on Kyle Street, near Vickie Powers Memorial Park. Inside, police say they found methamphetamine and associated paraphernalia.

The investigation continues.
