RAPID CITY, S.D. – Rapid City police are asking the public to avoid the area east of Deadwood Avenue, north of Interstate 90, and west of Haines Avenue while they search for an “armed and dangerous” suspect. Two individuals have been taken into custody.
According to Brendyn Medina with the Rapid City Police Department, a pursuit began around 9:30 Wednesday morning and led law enforcement north on Deadwood Avenue and down back roads. Police say multiple firearms were discarded during the pursuit. Three subjects ditched the vehicle and traveled into the terrain on foot.
Law enforcement is on scene combing the area. Medina says one of the subjects is a high-risk warrant suspect.
The public is asked to avoid the area while law enforcement searches the hills. Anyone living in the area is asked to report any suspicious behavior.
The Special Response Team is on scene in addition to all-terrain vehicles, a drone team, and a helicopter are aiding in the search. According to a release from the police department, the helicopter was “working in the area and volunteered to lend it’s capabilities as a resource.”
