Police arrest man for stealing packages

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Police arrested a man in Rapid City after he was found stealing packages from a home in the area of Haines Avenue and Van Buren Street.

At around 4 p.m. on Wednesday a male suspect was seen taking packages from the residence’s porch and walking away. Police arrived and found a man matching the description of the suspect walking on the west side of College Park.

The man gave a false name to police while they were working to identify him. Eventually they were able to identify him as a 24-year-old Rapid City resident.

A search of his person turned up several items that were still in new packaging, and police also located several discarded Amazon boxes in the area. Officers contacted the addressee on the boxes and found that the items inside were expected to be delivered at their home.

He was placed under arrest for impersonation to deceive law enforcement and theft and transported to the Pennington County jail.
