Pitbull, more coming to new Summit Arena

RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Summit Arena has announced its first concert for 2021: Pitbull!

Summit Arena Tour 3The Grammy Award-winning Florida native will be making his first-ever concert stop in South Dakota on October 16, according to The Monument.

This announcement comes right after Zac Brown Band and other well-known performers such as For King and Country along with Chris Young also informed the public about their scheduled stops in Rapid City.

The fun doesn’t stop there.

“We have Cats coming in our theatre, and The Price is Right, and Masterchef Jr., Clint Black is going in our theatre,” Executive Director for the Monument Craig Baltzer listed. “We got hockey about ready to start next month in our ice arena. We got all of our conventions coming back. And our sporting events, like LNI volleyball and LNI basketball tournaments.”

However, the excitement for what’s to come is over shadowed by a long-standing issue: staffing shortages.

“We’re doing everything we can. We’ve got a job fair going on this weekend, I think on Thursday,” he explained. “To try to help recruit more people to work here. We’re also doing some things to get the people who used to work out here to come back and some incentive programs and that kind of thing.”

As for COVID-19 protocols, Baltzer said that they are being left to the artists and teams bringing the events into the city.

No matter the issue, the excitement for upcoming events both announced and unannounced remains.

“We’ve actually got some really good holds in our calendar and all that. We’re just talking to the people about them right now and trying to get them solidified,” he stated. “And we’ll announce them when they’re ready to announce.”

Tickets for the upcoming Pitbull concert go on sale Saturday, September 18. For all events coming to the monument, visit www.themonument.live/events.
