Pierre National Guard returns to US from Middle East

RAPID CITY, S.D. — After an 11-month deployment to the Middle East, members of the South Dakota Army National Guard have come back to the U.S.

69 soldiers of the 152nd Combat Sustainment Support Battalion arrived at Fort Hood in Texas on Saturday, June 6. The members of the Pierre-based unit will now spend the next two weeks completing demobilization requirements before returning to South Dakota.

The 152nd CSSB was deployed to provide multi-functional and support operations for the U.S. along with other forces in the region. The deployment was the second mobilization of the unit since the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The unit was also deployed to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in 2013.

Details of the unit’s arrival in South Dakota as well as the welcome home event will be announced at a later time, when the details are confirmed.
