Piedmont man arrested for using counterfeit $100 bills

SPEARFISH, S.D. — A Piedmont man has been arrested for using counterfeit bills that may have circulated throughout four separate counties.

The arrest came after the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office received a report on May 20 that a counterfeit $100.00 bill was used at the Valley Corner in Spearfish.

During the investigation, it was determined that similar counterfeit bills were also passed around various businesses in Pennington County, Meade County and Butte County.

On May 24, officials obtained information that ultimately led to a search warrant being conducted at a Spearfish home.

Inside the home, law enforcement officers identified Tyler Andrews, 34, of Piedmont. They also found counterfeit currency, several items consistent with producing counterfeit currency, fake or altered ID’s and methamphetamine.

Andrews was arrested for outstanding warrants, including forgery, identity theft and parole violation. He is being held in the Lawrence County Jail with no bond.
