Photos of Wednesday’s tornadoes, hail and lightning

CUSTER COUNTY, S.D. — Wednesday afternoon has had highly active severe weather across the region, with several reports of tornadoes touching down in Custer, Weston, Oglala Lakota and Bennett Counties.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Office shared photos of a reported tornado in the southwestern part of the county. Officials say there have not been any reports of damage due to the tornado, but quarter sized hail and heavy winds have been hitting the area.

There were multiple tornado reports from spotters and authorities in the Oglala Lakota and Bennett County areas — it’s unknown yet if those were from multiple tornadoes or one tornado that several people saw or that formed and reformed.

Hail was reported in many areas, with Summerset experiencing half dollar sized hail and a viewer submitted photo of golf ball sized hail in the Ellsworth AFB area.

NewsCenter1 will continue to bring you updates on the latest forecast, as more lines of storms are expected to continue hitting the region into Wednesday evening. A flash flood warning remains in effect for Lawrence and Pennington Counties, focused in the Nemo and Silver City areas.
