Pennington County’s new $121,000 search and rescue vehicle

PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. — A new vehicle is on its way to Pennington County Search and Rescue.

Tuesday the County Commission approved the purchase of this $121,000 all terrain vehicle called the Sherp Pro.

Chief Deputy Brian Mueller with the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office says the office and Search and Rescue have been researching vehicles for some time. The Sherp Pro will be a first of its kind unit to responders.

“Our other specialty vehicles are pretty specialized, we have vehicles that work well in heavy snow in mud we have nothing that operates, other than boats on water, so this vehicle it can cross creeks and rivers and help us get to stranded people in floods,” said Mueller.

The Sherp Pro can hold up to 8 people and can be used in rescue operations, no matter the weather. The vehicle is set to roll into town sometime in November.
