Pennington County Sheriffs welcome 20 new hires
RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office welcomed some new members during a ceremony Tuesday afternoon.
There are 20 new hires in all. Eight of them took the oath of office as deputies and correctional officers and had their badges pinned. Six of the new hires are joining the Care Campus, which provides a crucial service to the community.
This ceremony was also serving as a celebration for making it through the application and training process.
“So those are post positions, meaning that we need people to be there 24/7 and we also need the right people to provide quality care to individuals seeking our help,” said Steph McCoy, director of administrative services for the PCSO.
The sheriff’s office also welcomed its first Build Dakota Scholarship recipient. Alexys Schille is joining the office as a med tech. She’s currently studying practical nursing at Western Dakota Tech and plans to continue with the sheriff’s office after graduating in the spring.
