Pennington County Sheriffs asking for assistance for lost hiker

UPDATE (@8:20 P.M. 8/02/21) — Jack Kross has been found by Pennington County Search and Rescue K9 around 8:00 p.m.


PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. — A teenager has been reported missing Monday afternoon.

Jack Kross, 15, was hiking with his family near Horse Thief Lake when he was separated from the group. He was last seen around 3:00 p.m. near the Horse Thief Lake trailhead.

Kross is approximately 5’9 and 140 lbs. with dirty blonde hair and hazel eyes. He was wearing a gray shirt with snoopy on it, light gray shorts with a green stripe, blue socks and black shoes.

Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, Pennington County Search and Rescue, Mount Rushmore Rangers, and the Forest Service are all working to locate Kross.
