Pennington County Search & Rescue, deputies use new equipment to locate 3 stranded people

 

PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. — Three missing people were found safe after being stranded for several hours in a remote area of the Black Hills.

Thursday evening at around 8 p.m., a woman called to report her husband had not returned home, and was possibly stranded.

He was with a companion in the area of Ditch Creek Road and Six Mile Road, when his vehicle got stuck. A friend went out to dig out the vehicle, and got stuck as well. The man suffered from a medical condition and lacked water and food.

Two Pennington County Deputies and eight members of Pennington County Search & Rescue were dispatched in search of the three stranded people. They used the Sherp, snow cat and a tracked UTV.

Around 11 p.m., the three missing people were found safe and unharmed in a second stranded vehicle nearly a mile east of the intersection.
