Pennington County reports second highest number of active cases in South Dakota

PIERRE, S.D. – Pennington County reports a total number of 148 active coronavirus cases, moving the county to the second highest total of active cases in the state.

The South Dakota Department of Health reports 29 confirmed COVID-19 cases Monday morning. Nine cases are West River. Statewide cases now rise to 6,326.

Five new cases were reported in Pennington County, bringing the total number of cases in the county to 462. A total of 148 are considered active, down eight from Sunday. A total of 303 people in Pennington County have recovered.

Pennington County has surpassed Beadle County in having the second highest number of active cases in the state. Minnehaha County reports the highest number with 225 considered active.

Oglala Lakota (56 total) , Meade (43 total) , Fall River (7 total) , and Lyman (48 total) County each report one addition case.

Statewide recoveries are up by 48, bringing the total number of recoveries to 5,437. A total of 88 people are currently hospitalized and 616 people have been hospitalized since the pandemic began.

No new deaths were reported Monday. The death toll stands at 81.
