Pennington County reports an additional seven coronavirus cases

Confirmed cases in the county rise to 26

PIERRE, S.D. – Pennington County reports an additional seven COVID-19 cases Sunday morning. Total cases in that county now reach 26. Statewide cases exceed 3,500.

According to the state Department of Health website, 125 cases were confirmed positive since Saturday bringing the state’s total number of positives to 3,517. Minnehaha County reports 100 of the new cases. Seven are in Pennington County.

As of Sunday morning, 15 cases are active in Pennington County, up from eight Saturday. No new recoveries are reported in the county.

The Department of Health now classifies Pennington County as having substantial community spread which means there are five or more cases of community-acquired COVID-19 in the local area.

Elsewhere West River, Todd County reports a ninth case. A total of four people have recovered.

Active cases in the state rose to 1,336, a change of 102 since the previous day’s reporting. Seventy-seven people are currently hospitalized.

Statewide recoveries rose by 22, bringing the total to 2,147. There are no new deaths reported in South Dakota.
