Pennington County Emergency Management holding “stop the bleed” class

Pennington county experts say that in traumatic events, like a car crash, mass shooting or hunting accident, you could bleed out in minutes.

RAPID CITY, S.D. — You never know when an emergency situation could come up.

To prepare for those situations, Pennington County Emergency Management is holding a stop the bleed class on Thursday night.

Pennington county experts say that in traumatic events, like a car crash, mass shooting or hunting accident, you could bleed out in minutes.

The class covers how to stop major bleeding, with techniques that include tourniquets, wound packing or even tying a t-shirt to stop the bleeding.

Instructors of the class say that the most important thing is to stop the bleeding, but also make sure first responders are on their way.

“Tell someone else to call 911 and don’t say somebody call 911, point somebody out so it gives them the responsibility. ‘You tell them’ you call 9-1-1,” said Mark Enright, the Training and Exercise Specialist with Pennington County Emergency Management.

The class is for anyone that would like to participate.Stop The Bleed 3

It starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Pennington County Administration building on Thursday, July 14 and lasts until about 8:30 p.m.
