Pennington County early voting numbers slightly up from previous elections
PENNINGTON COUNTY, S.D. — Early voting numbers in Pennington County were up a little from recent elections.
Pennington County Auditor Cindy Mohler says numbers were up from the 2016 and 2018 elections.
Mohler believes the increase is due to voters becoming more aware of the availability of absentee voting.
“I think more people are getting used to coming in and doing that,” said Mohler. “I think they like the convenience of, you know, having the six weeks to come in when it’s convenient for them rather than just voting on election day.”
The absentee ballots are sealed and won’t be counted until after the polls close.
Absentee voting for the November general election begins September 23.
