Sheriff Kevin Thom presented the request to the Board of Commissioners Tuesday morning in Commission Chambers. He says these positions will be used to staff the treatment beds that the Care Campus is expected to have added to the second-floor renovations.

“In October, we’ll be adding 64 beds that’ll be completed in the second-floor. That’s what these positions are for is to staff that. It’ll serve for nurses and techs to help staff the 64 beds that will be in there. And that’s gonna help address the issues we’re having particularly with methamphetamine in our community, also for drugs and other alcohol as well,” said Sheriff Thom. He added that these full-time positions will only last as long as funding for those additional beds is needed.

Renovations to the laundry and kitchen facilities at the Pennington County Jail were also approved by the commission.
