PCSO eyeing addition of two future substations
To keep up with crime and public service, the Pennington County Sheriff's Office is looking to add a substation in that development.
RAPID CITY, S.D. — The Black Hills are booming. Rapid City’s population has grown on average around one percent every year for decades, and now Rapid Valley is starting to see some of that growth.
A new housing development in the area named Apple Valley will bring 467 homes to the area shows the potential for even more growth.
To keep up with crime and public service, the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office is looking to add a substation in that development.
“We’ve been experiencing growth, you know, south of Rapid City and west of Rapid City for some time now and we feel it’s important that we get some more law enforcement resources a little closer to the folks that they serve in those areas,” said Chief Deputy Brian Mueller of the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
The PCSO is also looking to add another substation in the Rockerville area. These substations should help sheriff’s deputies respond to calls quicker.
“Some of those stations may be report to duty stations where the deputies don’t even have to come down here to the public safety building,” Mueller said. “They can respond right to duty to those stations, so that will save the deputies time coming and going from work and just providing better services right out where we are in the communities that we’re serving.”
The sheriff’s office is still in early discussions with developers of both sites as construction gets going.
