Parts of Interstate 90 remain closed

RAPID CITY, S.D. – The winter storm has subsided but South Dakota Highway Patrol says roads are still dangerous and can be slick. A little before 10 Thursday morning, troopers re-opened Interstate 90 from Wyoming to Rapid City.

Interstate 90 from Rapid city to Chamberlain will remain closed through tonight due to high winds that can create whiteout conditions. Crews are doing their best to try to get the interstate up and running. As always their main priority is safety.

Although the visibility might be good here in Rapid City it could be a whole different story when you get out of Rapid City and the open plains,” said Capt. Jason Ketterling with the highway patrol.

Roads may be opening but it is still important to slow it down and drive with caution until they are clear of ice.
