Partners Host Educational Events at Pactola Visitor Center

Rapid City, SD, June 15, 2022 – The Black Hills National Forest and South Dakota GF&P Department are teaming up to offer educational programs at the Pactola Visitor Center this summer.

The programs are slated for 1:00 –3:00 p.m. on the following Saturdays: June 18, July 16, and Aug. 20.

There is no cost for the programs, and each activity is planned for the outdoor patio area overlooking the Pactola Reservoir.

The programs include Investigating Skulls and Furs (June), Being Crafty with Fish Prints (July), and Discovering Animal Tracks (August).

Recreation Program Manager Bradley Block said, “The Forest is excited for this educational partnership with the South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks and once again engaging visitors at the beautiful Pactola Visitor Center.”

The programs and related activities are being conducted by the Naturalists from Custer State Park.

Additionally, on Saturday, June 18, the Black Hills Parks and Forests Association (BHPFA) is hosting a Pactola Picnic Day on-site.

Kid-friendly, nature activities are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Furthermore, the Leave No Trace (LNT) Traveling Team will also be available with games and activities, along with answering questions about LNT.

BHPFA is the official non-profit, cooperative partner of the Black Hills National Forest.

The Pactola Visitor Center is located about 14 miles north of Hill City, South Dakota along Hwy 385.
